For Immediate Release
Four people arrested in civil disobedience outside of Arpaio’s contempt trial last Thursday reported that ICE agents are still stationed inside the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail. One of the arrestees was interrogated by an ICE agent, even though she is only facing minor misdemeanors for blocking traffic during the protest. According to federal ICE enforcement priorities, such charges should not merit interaction with ICE.
Francisca Porchas, of the Puente Movement, who was arrested at the protest on Thursday, says, “We were marching for an end to ICE collaboration with racist police in the state of Arizona. Even as the sheriff faces possible jail time in his contempt trial and has been shown without a shadow of a doubt to engage in rampant racial profiling and abuse of power, the Obama administration continues to deport his victims. We will continue to fight to stop ICE collaboration with law enforcement in the state of Arizona.”
Interviews available with Francisca Porchas and Alma Mendoza, two of those arrested on Thursday at 6:30pm tonight Monday, April 27th at Puente, 1937 W Adams St.
